The Future of Feminism
Join GEN VIC as we have a conversation with Victoria’s youth leaders and hear about their reflections on gender/ queerness, intersectionality, and the future of feminist movements. We will also explore the steps needed to take to create the future they are envisioning.

Audrey Mason-Hyde (they/them)
At 16, Aud has experience as an actor, spoken word poet, activist and public speaker. In 2017 they created and performed a TedX talk about their experience of gender, which has since garnered over one million views. Since, they have appeared in several award-winning films, been a consultant, keynote speaker and slam poet. Aud also works as a youth activist in the Adelaide School Strike 4 Climate group, and through their workshop facilitation, is a strong advocate for the queering of society.
Jan Sam (they/them)
Jan is a queer, disabled international student living on Wurundjeri Woiwurrung land of the Kulin Nation. Jan is a Malaysian who grew up in a small country called Brunei. Last year, they were the international student representative of the council in their student union and have advocated for all students including those who identify as disabled, trans, women, queer and POC. They will be interning at Multicultural Women Victoria to advocate for the rights of migrants and refugees this year.
Ruqia Mohamed (she/her), Youth Affair Council Victoria
Ruqia is currently working as a Young Peer Facilitator at YACVic and hold other Youth specific roles with Banyule City Council. She likes to describe her passion for advocacy as an onion, there are layers and depths to it. she is passionate about making Victoria a safer place for young people whereby they are free to express themselves and lead the changes we would like to see. Another layer is being born into a refugee family, being a minority and representing women that look like her.

Tash Zeng (she/her), Monash University
Natasha Zeng (Tash) is a PhD student in the School of Media, Film and Journalism at Monash University. Her research explores how social media shapes understandings and practices of race. She is interested in how therapeutic and self-branding doctrines affect online practices of identity and what these new knowledge cultures mean politically, culturally and socially. Natasha is currently working as a research assistant with Dr Akane Kanai on a research project looking at how young feminists learn feminist concepts and frameworks online.

Choice, Control and Resistance
Join GEN VIC and a panel of leaders and practitioners for a discussion on reproductive choice, vaccination choice and coercive control over women's health decisions in the migrant and refugee communities, as well as strategies for resistance.

Feminism and Climate Action
We know that the climate crisis is not gender-neutral. In this panel discussion, we will unpack the intersections of climate, justice and feminism, including the disproportionate impact of climate change on women and gender diverse people. We will also explore an intersectional feminist approach to address the crisis.
