One year ago, we lost an extraordinary woman — Cr Sarah Carter.

Sarah joined the Gender Equity Victoria (GEN VIC) Board in May 2024, but her tireless advocacy for gender equity spanned many years before that.

In her short time with us, Sarah made a profound impact. She contributed meaningfully to our governance, regularly attending meetings and events, championing our mission, and amplifying our work in every way she could.

To honour Sarah’s legacy and continue the important work she so passionately believed in, we are proud to announce — with the blessing of her family and thanks to a generous initial donation — the establishment of an annual GEN VIC Cr Sarah Carter Governance Scholarship. This scholarship will support gender equity advocates by providing access to governance training.
