Gender Equity Victoria welcomes the appointment today of Dr Niki Vincent as the Victoria and the nation’s first Commissioner for Gender Equality in the Public Sector.
Dr Vincent, currently serving as South Australia’s Equal Opportunity Commissioner, will move to Victoria to oversee the implementation of the Gender Equality Act which is set to come into force in March next year. The Act sets mandatory reporting and other obligations in over 300 public sector workplaces – from Universities to local government and emergency services – to improve gender equality and address the gender pay gap.
“Gender Equity Victoria and its members warmly welcome Dr Vincent into this important new role and look forward to supporting her and the Commission to deepen gender equality action across the public sector, “ said Ms Tanja Kovac, CEO of Gender Equity Victoria
“Gender Equality is a complicated, intergenerational project, requiring dedicated work within government and the broader community over many years. This role will drive change within 11% of Victorian workplaces and ensure the Victorian Government is walking the talk of gender equality. It’s yet another way Victoria is leading the way in creating a safe, gender equal community.”
“We look forward to collaborative partnership with Dr Vincent and the Commission to support transformation that benefits everyone, especially at a time when a gender equal recovery from COVID19 is so important.” Said Ms Kovac
