PHNOI Events

This series of capacity-building sessions has been created from identified sector needs and will support sector development to advance commemorative place naming and public art equality.

The six-series program will take agencies through understanding and applying steps and tools to identify where the organisation is currently, plan and take action, and monitor progress to increase the names and stories of women and gender diverse people in place naming and public art.

The sessions will be online to ensure greater access to all Victorian naming authorities.

Session 1: Let the Data Speak – Pulse Check and Audit

3rd September 24, 10.45am-12.15pm (online)

  • Let The Data Speak will introduce participants to the tools available to identify where the organisation currently sits in the implementation of the process to achieve place naming and public art equality (pulse check) and how to collect data and calculate the gap (audit). Sector leaders will share their stories of progress.

Session 2: Gender Positive – Gender Impact Assessment

  • 24th Sept 24, 10.45am-12.15pm (online)

  • Gender Positive will guide participants through the understanding and process of undertaking a gender impact assessment, how to apply a gender lens to place naming and public art, and designing recommendations that will make a positive gender impact. Sector leaders will share their stories of progress.

Session 3: Women to the Front – Name Bank

22 October 2024, 10.45am–12.15pm

  • Women to the Front will guide you through the processes, resources and opportunities available to create a Name Bank of notable local women and their stories to support future place naming and public art. Sector leaders will share their stories of progress.

Session 4: Big Levers – Policy, Governance & Resourcing

21 November 2024, 10.45am–12.15pm

  • Big Levers introduces you to the role of policies, resources and governance in creating systemic and transformative change in place naming and public art equality. We will also guide you through the templates and examples of creating good policy and governance structures that work. Sector leaders will share their stories of progress.

Session 5: Maximising Commemorative Justice

10 December 2024, 10.45am–12.15pm

  • Maximising Commemorative Justice is an opportunity to zoom out and look at the big picture and the strategic, collaborative and highly visible ways you can work to achieve commemorative justice. We will explore who your partners are, where to look for opportunities to mass name and commemorate, and how to bring greater visibility to your efforts. Sector leaders will share their stories of progress.

Session 6: Planning for Success – Action Planning

February 2025 (date to be confirmed)

  • Planning for Success provides an opportunity to pull it all together and create your very own organisational action plan for place naming and public art equality. We will guide you through what you’ve discovered to date and work that into clear, achievable and measurable action that you can use to monitor the organisation’s place naming and public art equality journey. Sector leaders will share their stories of progress.

 

These sessions are to strengthen collective action and look at ideas for turbo-charging place naming and public art equality.
