Domestic Violence Victoria, Gender Equity Victoria, No To Violence and CASA Forum has formed an alliance to Unite Against Family Violence. The Alliance has called for the implementation and funding for all recommendations made by the Royal Commission into Family Violence that occurred in Victoria in 2016.
For years, family violence was hidden behind closed doors and sat on the sidelines of the government’s agenda.
In 2014, Victoria held a ground-breaking Royal Commission into Family Violence, which evaluated hundreds of submissions from all over our community and critiqued how we respond to family violence.
No other jurisdiction in the world has had the benefit of such an endeavour.
The Royal Commission delivered us a world-first roadmap with 227 recommendations for how we can build a system that will keep women and children safe and prevent violence before it begins.
We should be proud of how far Victoria has come in efforts to end family violence, but the Royal Commission’s roadmap was just the beginning.
